Our Project

The problem that our team decided to work on for our project is child unhealthiness. 1 out of 3 kids today is overweight; and 1 out of 400-600 kids has diabetes. Our team is working on a design for a system that would help kids manage these problems in a fun way.

This system would  involve using many home diagnostic tools and systems, including pedometers, glucometers, dietary input, and thermometers to create a healthier lifestyle for kids. Kids would also wear a special kind of wristwatch computer which would monitor pulse and insulin levels for diabetic kids. The data would also be sent to a database which parents or doctors could access. To make sure that healthy choices become regular habits, kids would get points in a video game every time they made a good choice in their daily lives. Our team also believes that prevention is a better solution.

Even though our solution is nonexistent at this time, we believe that we can make healthy choices; because, as stated above, prevention is a better solution in our point of view. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that children should get at least 20-30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week. It also recommends that children should eat a variety of foods from the 5 different food groups: fruit, vegetables, grain, protein, and dairy.
